socialmedialandscapeThese days using social media should be a big part of marketing your business. But the time it takes can sometimes be extremely overwhelming. So much so, that many people actually stop it completely. While catching up on my tweets this week, 1 tweet in particular caught my eye and I just had to share it with you.

Robin Broitman of Interactive Insights Group has compiled a very large list of articles that offer great advice, tips and tools to help you be more productive and efficient when using social media.

I recommend bookmarking this post and reading a little bit everyday…after all, being such a comprehensive list, I don’t want you to get overwhelmed just trying to learn how not to be overwhelmed by social media:)

Ps. I found the image for this post linked to a very interesting article by Fred Cavazza entitled, “Social Media Landscape“, that breaks down the actual meaning of  “Social Media” …another very interesting read.

A Massive Social Networking Directory

The Social Networking Directory is a MASSIVE 580 page book listing over 3000 social networking and social marketing websites!

You should be using social marketing as part of your marketing campaign, there’s no doubt about that is there? Not really:)

Social networking is not a fad, it’s the wave of the future. People online today don’t want to be “advertised to”, they want to engage in conversations, communicate and meet new people. You need to jump in and start doing the same thing.

It’s much like the offline world, where you meet people at a social gathering and may have a conversation on what you do or what they do. You don’t wear a flashing banner advertisement around your neck telling them to buy your product, do you? No (I hope). You talk about it, share your thoughts and engage in a conversation that can often end up in either creating a partnership of some sort, or in gaining a new customer.

The problem is there are so many out there that it’s quite mind boggling. And, because social networking does take up a lot of time, you want to start small and work up to a special few that you find actually benefit your business. Focus and work on your chosen group to ensure maximum exposure.

You also want to find the sites that are special to your own niche. If you are a dog trainer, you want to find the social sites where dog lovers hang out. If your niche is cooking, you want to find sites where those who love to cook and exchange recipes hang out. You get the point.

Now, to save you time searching these sites out, you can download this Social Networking Directory for free and use it as a guide to searching out the sites that best work for your own business.
